Aesthetics in the fitness industry - Should gym owners by "jacked"?

Welcome to the weekly warble here at Ideanthro Movement where this week we're talking about...

AESTHETICS IN THE FITNESS INDUSTRY - SHOULD GYM OWNERS BE “JACKED”?

First up, if you're not down with the lingo, "jacked" means to be really muscular with very little obvious body fat.

On the weekend, Adrian and I (Jack) attended a workshop in Sydney. After the first day we were walking home and started discussing whether we, as gym owners, needed to get more "jacked".

I'll let you in on the ending now. The answer was a resounding NO!

Everyone who knows us will, I'm sure, wonder "Why on earth were you discussing that!"

Earlier on that day, @jbjoey, the host of this great workshop (and we really did enjoy it!), said something that we both interpreted as "neither of you look like you own a gym, you're not jacked enough". Now we'll take Joey at his word when he says that he didn't mean to imply that, but nonetheless it sparked our discussion!

(Love you @jbjoey!)

The reason we decided that "no, we definitely won't be getting 'jacked' just because we own a gym" really gets to the heart of what Ideanthro Movement is about...

We believe that the aesthetic of "fitness" that most of the fitness and gym industry portrays is unhealthy. Yes, keeping body fat to sensible levels and having some muscle is important, but the uber jacked aesthetic that most of the fitness industry portrays is both disingenuous and unhealthy.

Instead we stand for being an inclusive and caring place that will help you with your fitness and movement abilities, but without any of the judgemental or harmful messaging that you'll find elsewhere.

We are proud to not be "jacked", but to nonetheless be capable and confident movers.
