Fitness should be fun
NOTE - This post was originally written for our 'weekly warble' segment in a few Facebook groups for the community local to our gym.
Welcome to the weekly warble here at Ideanthro Movement!
This week I'm going to warble on about two words.
FITNESS
and
FUN
If you're fortunate, then these two words already fit together beautifully for you. There are plenty of people out there who genuinely love that thing that they do for fitness, and if that's you, I'm incredibly happy for you!
Unfortunately, as a fitness coach I know that there are a lot of people who haven't YET found the fitness thing that they find fun.
Did you notice how I stressed the word "YET" in that last paragraph?
I truly believe that there is a fun fitness pursuit out there for everyone. It's just a matter of how to find it!
This is one of the things that makes natural movement amazing. Because it's a really broad approach; with many different skills you can choose to practice and many different ways you can do that practice, it means we can tailor it to suit what you find fun. Here are a few examples:
1) Let's say you know that you need to improve your cardio and you love playing board games. Well, we can turn natural movement into movement games that will satisfy your love of board games, all while hiding the cardio within the game.
2) Perhaps you're a real detail oriented person who wants to improve their upper body strength. We could focus your training on rock climbing because climbing is great for upper body strength and climbing well requires a keen attention to the detail of how you move.
3) Maybe you're a time poor parent of an 8 year old and a 10 year old. Natural movement is great for moving as a family, because we can help you improve your fitness while doing something that your children will genuinely enjoy doing with you.
Long story short. Fitness should be fun. If you've already found the fitness thing that you love, then that's amazing! I'm stoked for you! But if you haven't, then natural movement is worth a go, because more than any other type of fitness that I know, there's something in it for everyone.
