Mundane positive outcomes are sometimes the most satisfying
NOTE - This post was originally written for our 'weekly warble' segment in a few Facebook groups for the community local to our gym.
Welcome to the weekly warble here at Ideanthro Movement!
This week I'm going to talk about how sometimes the most satisfying positive outcomes of moving more and becoming more physically fit are also the most mundane and least 'flashy' outcomes. This warble is complimented nicely by the video that accompanies this post.
Time and time again at our gym, members come up to me and tell me stories about how their training in the gym has benefitted them in seemingly mundane (but as it turns out, very satisfying and important) ways in their daily lives. And this means a lot to me, because while the more flashy stuff like "I learnt to jump over X" or "I did Y climbing challenge" is awesome and very satisfying in it's own right, there's something special about helping someone improve those less flashy and easy to overlook things.
So what are these mundane improvements? Here are some examples:
At least four of our clients in their 60's and 70's have told me how our balance training has made it much easier (and safer) from them to put their underwear on.
One of our clients regularly tells us how much safer she now feels stepping onto unstable surfaces.
Several clients find it much easier to play with their children and/ or grandchildren.
And so wrapping this post up. What's the takeaway message? There could be a few:
One such message is that even if you don't have lofty athletic goals, fitness training can have a meaningful impact in your day to day life.
Another message (that's important for me as a coach) is to remember to celebrate both the flashy outcomes and the more mundane ones, because ultimately they're both equally valuable.
Have a nice day!
