Why people choose our gym
NOTE - This post was originally written for our 'weekly warble' segment in a few Facebook groups for the community local to our gym.
Welcome to the weekly warble here at Ideanthro Movement!
This week I'd like to talk about two common reasons people choose to come to our gym here at Ideanthro Movement.
The reason that I feel inspired to talk about this is that I realise that our gym and what we do in it looks pretty different to a standard gym. I realise that sometimes people look at our pictures on social media and think, "that looks interesting, I wonder if that's right for me?". I'd like to help you answer that question.
Of course there are more than two reasons that people come to our gym, but these are probably the two most common ones that I hear from adults, and hence it makes sense to talk about them in particular.
1) "I find normal gyms/ fitness classes boring" - It goes without saying that some people really enjoy more common forms of fitness that you see at standard gyms, and that's awesome, but it's not the case for everyone. Many people don't enjoy those styles of fitness, but are drawn to what we do. Because our approach to fitness focuses on learning movement skills and then applying them in creative and playful ways, it's often far more intellectually engaging and thus more enjoyable. Just yesterday one of our members said this during class. "Before coming here (Ideanthro Movement) I used to go to a normal gym. I'd do it, but it was boring! However, I'd never miss a session here!"
2) "I'm not as young as I used to be and want to stay fit and capable as I get older" - I'll be honest, when we opened Ideanthro Movement I didn't foresee this, but as it turns out we've attracted lovely group of people in their 50's, 60's and 70's who really like our approach to fitness. Because our approach involves practising movement skills that are directly applicable to daily life (e.g. balance to prevent falls, lifting techniques applicable to carrying children and grandchildren etc), we've found that the program really helps people 50 and older. Yes, we have members in their 20's, 30's and 40's who love the program, but our members 50 and above benefit from it immensely as well.
I could go on, but that's plenty for now. I hope you found that useful!
