Why try bodyweight strength training!
Welcome to the weekly warble here at Ideanthro Movement.
This week I'm going to talk about the benefits of bodyweight strength training, and why it might be a good option for you.
It's widely recognised that strength training with weights (barbells, dumbbells, sandbags etc) is a great way to gain strength. You won't get any arguments about that from me. At Ideanthro Movement we offer multiple classes per week focussed on exactly that!
But did you know that there's another style of strength training that uses only your bodyweight as resistance?
This is bodyweight strength training.
There are a couple of big benefits to bodyweight strength training.
When it's done well, there is a really strong emphasis on paying attention to how your body moves, and how it feels while moving. This makes it great for people returning to training after injuries, because we build into things slowly and mindfully. It is also great for people who like depth to their hobbies and sinking their teeth into a good challenge. The introspective nature of bodyweight strength training provides that depth.
Bodyweight strength training is also a really good foundation for more advanced movements such as handstands. It doesn't mean that you have to do these more advanced movements to give bodyweight strength training a go, but if you've ever wanted to be able to do a handstand, a dragon squat or other such fancy movements, then bodyweight strength training is a great way to get there.
If you'd like to know more, feel free to send us a DM. Alternatively you can find our contact details at www.ideanthromovement.com . We offer 6 bodyweight strength classes per week and are happy to answer any questions you might have.
Cheers
